What I’ve Learned Today (13)

Graveyards should be happy places.  Yes, they are the locations of our body when we pass on, but where elese are you given an area beside all your loved ones for all of eternity?  Do not return them to the soil, good pastor.  Return them to the new home of their parents, grandparents, spouses, and so on.

What I’ve Learned Today (12)

There are some peoples of the world that should not be allowed to govern themselves.  Furthermore, some of those locations are right around the corner, the locations that we make fun of when we are kids because the “icky kids” are from there or because they are always in the newspaper with the joke headlines.

Do NOT try to turn these people around.  You WILL get hurt.  Go in, try to pull a kid or two away that show some sort of promise, and do your best to encourage those kids to get the heck out of Dodge as quickly as possible.  There is no point in you wasting your time on these people.  When you leave, or when you are forced out, you will be forgotten as quickly as the lettuce that you threw out of the fridge last week.

They will continue on, unnerved in their incompetence, and you will feel as if there is no reason for you to continue on anywhere else.  You will be the one that has learned a lesson, but it is not a necessary one to complete life and feel fulfilled.

Quotable Quotes (2)

“Don’t worry about the future; or worry, but know that worrying is as effective as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing bubblegum. The real troubles in your life are apt to be things that never crossed your worried mind; the kind that blindside you at 4pm on some idle Tuesday.”

 - Mary Schmich (as made popular by Baz Luhrmann in the song Everybody’s Free to Wear Sunscreen)

What I’ve Learned Today (11)

Working as hard as you can, giving more than 100%, does not matter if the company is corrupt.  When you find out that your company is doing shady things to another employee, get out as soon as you can.  You may be next on the chopping block, even if you did your best.

What I’ve Learned Today (10)

Politicians have a difficult job.  They not only have to endure the outcry from people no matter what they say and do, they have a much more difficult job.

They have to sit through extremely boring ceremonies and banquets and obviously have no interest in the topic (as even people who have a reason to be there are bored stiff) and have to act interested.  It’s hard to feign interest in a topic for 15 minutes, let alone three hours.

That being said, I still feel that Douglas Adams was right when he said: Anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job.

For me, that applies to all politicians.

What I’ve Learned Today (9)

One of the best relaxation techniques on the planet involves a cat in your lap (purring) and a candy bar in your hand.  Of course, this technique only works if that candy bar eventually ends up in your stomach.

Quotable Quotes (1)

I hope to make this a repeating segment as well…quotes that mean something to me, both in my life right now and as words to remember.

I didn’t have the best day today, so unfortunately I’m starting on a bit of a negative note, but still a great quote by a great artist:

“When I wake up,
and the day begins,
do I hold my breath
and count to ten?
Or will it be three?
We’ll see, we’ll see.
It depends on which day of the week.”

- Jason Mraz, That’ll Do

Eh, to make it a bit lighter, I’ll throw in another quote from the same song…and one that I would put in my list of best lyrics ever:

“We should all keep pretending,
that our dreams are patent pending.”

When he sings those two lines, I get chills.  Almost every time.

What I Learned Today (8)

This is a couple days old, but I’ve been out of places that have Internet for that long too, so:

Pianos are heavy.

What I Learned Today (7)

Everyone loves Dum Dums.  Even High School students that hate everything will pick through a bag of them to get their favorite flavor.

Also, after going through a whole bag of them I have found the following:

Favorite Flavor in the Elementary: Blue Raspberry (Overwhelmingly)

Favorite Flavor in the Middle School: Blue Raspberry (Cotton Candy is a close second)

Favorite Flavor in the High School: Blue Raspberry (other notables: Mango and Pink Lemonade)

Favorite Flavor with Adults: Root Beer (What happens to people??  At what age is does not having blue lips become important enough to sacrifice taste?)

My Favorite Flavor: Cherry Cola (And what does this say about me? I’ve got the adult soda thing going on but still go for the fruity flavor?  Does that mean I’m perpetually in limbo between adult and child?  If so, have to say, TOTALLY O.K. with that.)

You may think you have a lot of stuff…but you really don’t know how much until you start to move.
